Abstract

My thesis titled Why Wasn’t I Told This Sooner?, expands on the idea of the importance of design education being taught to children in grade school. Through the lens of games, children are introduced to design methodologies to help them understand new forms of problem solving, personal expression, and critical thinking.

To remedy this I have created a game called WordWise, a typography matching game that opens a child's eyes to a diverse array of letterforms, language and the beginnings of systems. There is also MosaicMinds, where modularity can become guided, structured, or even open ended play. Lastly, we have TactiCube, an introduction of space and critical thinking by the way of packaging layouts..

This is my MFA Thesis for ArtCenter College of Design. Shown above are just a small teaser of a 270 page brand, research, and thesis book. It exhibits my year long research of design related themes introduced to young children through the idea of play. On top of creating a fully developed brand and company ready for launch, I created over 20 games in various forms and staged of development, 3 of which are fully finished. With my connection in the school district and family members I was able to bring my games to young students to play and test my games.
